"When I held my hard cover printed photo book in my hand, it confirmed the commitment and passion that goes into my dancing. This photoshoot was the most fun I’ve ever had in a weekend….EVER!
Seth is a phenomenal photographer and not only did he document the experience, he enhanced it. His background as an International Standard dancer and now, as one of the coolest cats on the West Coast Swing floor, gave him the insight needed to get the action shots that convey the emotion and excitement that I feel on the dance floor.
I never felt like I was posing. I actually forgot he was there to photograph me! The coffee table book that I received illustrates my personal dance story—the reasons why I dance and how I feel when I am moving.
The whole production was seamlessly executed. Seth and Kelly went into the project with a clear idea for a storyline that truly represented my passion and at the same time, they were open to suggestions and being spontaneous when it was necessary in order to get the perfect shot.
Thank you. I treasure my ballroom storybook!"
Sam was in her last year at Harvard University when her mother talked her into trying out ballroom dance. Fast-forward two years and they are still dancing and traveling together on the competition circuit! Sam comes from a musical background studying classical piano, which allows her to pick up steps and routines with ease. Now, she is considered the one to watch out for in the Pro-Am field competing in American Smooth and Rhythm.
Gretchen competes in all four styles of Ballroom Dance plus Argentine Tango. She and her husband, Bob, live outside of Boston with their three children, Mimi, Robert and Lydia.
Argentine Tango seemed the obvious dance to highlight for Gretchen and her Pro Partner Christoper for her photo story.
“I Love the tone and the cadence of the dance, the soulful music, the style and the nuance. Everything about it just speaks to me. It did from the first moment i saw it."
Gretchen's text to the crew the morning after:
"It was an amazing experience working with you and your team. You made the experience fun and beautiful. Thank you!"
Gretchen's text to Seth and Kelly the morning after she saw the images:
"Wow, my head spinning - am at a loss for words. Still reeling. Cannot believe how gorgeous they are. Moody, piercing, soft, intense, textured, compelling. I can’t thank you enough for pulling this together. Every aspect of this experience has been fun and exciting."
Magdolna "Maggie" Toth is originally from Hungary and moved to the United States in 2012. Magdolna has been dancing professionally for the past 15 years and dances International Style (Standard and Latin) as well as American Style (Rhythm and Smooth). She competes all over the U.S. with her long-time dance partner, Dave Hannigan.
"Working with Kelly and Seth was a life changing experience. I was a little nervous about the first shoot since I've never been good at posing and I know that photographing dancers in motion can be very difficult. However, once we started shooting, my concerns disappeared and amazing things started to happen! The storyline, the locations and the team reminded me of why I started dancing in the first place."
Dancing in the grass in Newport, RI with waves crashing nearby and the estate in the distance, all the while dancing the tango “en plein air” erased the notion that there were cameras on me or that this experience had not been something all together spontaneous. It made me feel like I was a character in a different time and that feeling is what I strive for every time I dance.
Seeing the talent and the passion of your team was absolutely inspiring. All of that is so special and I can't thank you enough for that gift!!
Originally from Texas Katie is now living in NYC dancing with the American Ballet Theatre as a member of the corps de ballet. Prior to we caught up with Katie while she was dancing with the Boston Ballet. Rob Glover had the idea to combine ballet with ballroom dance for the project "Black Tie Gone Rogue."
